Indexing

Our ward had a mini class on how to do indexing.  We have now caught the spirit of Elijah and indexed over sixty names for FHE.  The last twenty or so broke my heart.  They were from Barbados in the early 1900's.  Black or Mullato was their last name.  They had no parents, just an owner.  No age or gender was recorded either.  It hurt my heart a little that the only people to care about their parentage or lives in over one hundred years were the people doing the indexing.  This is the reason it will be all straightened out in the Millennium.  I went to bed feeling hope that someday these poor souls will be linked to the never-ending eternal family chain.
So I give a challenge to all who read this blog.  Go to lds.org and set up an account.  Your membership record number is on your temple recommend.  Click on familysearch.org then click indexing at the top.  Download the indexing program and get started.  Once you learn the process it is so easy and rewarding.  I could do it all day long.
The next step is getting names ready for their temple work to be done.  I do not know how to do this, yet.  When I figure it out, I'll let you know.  For now, let's all work on indexing together and stop feeling guilty about not doing family history.

  1. Our ward and stake have had high indexing goals for a few years now. Our youth were even featured in the New Era for all the names we did. I'm anxiously awaiting for the 1940 census though so there's some nice typewritten ones. Those scrawly cursive ones really give me a headache!
Good for you to use that laptop for good works!

  2. Hope you know what you're getting into with that indexing--a ton of blessings!
    Way cool.

  3. I tried Spanish once because it was the highest priority. My spanish is not so good. I sent it back and went back to squinting at scrawly English cursive. Connor likes to help me try to decipher things. I haven't done it for a while though so thanks for the reminder.
