Bad Hair Day

I have decided until I can stand straight on my neck I will sport the uncool permed hair of the 80's.  I don't have to think about my hair when it is permed.  I just wash, comb, gel and go.  It is such a relief to have to not worry about how my hair looks.  I know it is not the coolest look, nor the best one for me, but I can put it up or leave it down without worrying if it looks horrible like I do when it is straight.  Shallow and ridiculous topic, I know, but true.  So I went to the beauty school to get my hair done.  (Tia, when are you coming to SUU to rescue me and my hair?)  Nobody would babysit my kids so I took them with me a long with toys, food, and drinks.  While the boys were eating their snacks people came by and told me how cute they were and talking to me about them.  The moment JD got bored they swooped in and whisked him away to a salon chair.  He came back with a faux hawk.  Everybody went nuts after that.  "Oh, how adorable," "Isn't he the cutest?"  They tried to convince Adam to let then do his hair and he hid behind a chair.  I told them that he was more shy than the baby, so they gave up and played cars with him instead.  They all took turns caring for the boys until lunch and then I was on my own.  They just wandered around and that's when the owner came over and told me that JD could burn himself on the curling irons.  How irresponsible of the salon to have hot curling irons laying about at toddler level.  So he spent the rest of the time sitting on my lap, escaping, Adam chasing him down and bringing him back to start the cycle again.  The rolling took forever and I have learned to only get perms from advanced students because they roll so much faster.
I have also learned that they also know when to ask questions and when to ask for help.  As soon as I got home and my hair dried I looked like a scarecrow.  I had curly spots and straight spots, all of which stood at odd angles in a puffy, frizzy mess.  I went back on Saturday for them to fix it.  I will catch up on the morning session later (because I need the instruction and motivation missed).  I took an hour less time to roll my hair and she did it without the help of the instructor doing half of it.  She used two bottles of solution for non colored hair, unlike the junior student who used one bottle of solution used for color treated hair.  Now my hair is less puffy and frizzy, curly all over and shorter.  She didn't cut it, she just did the perm right.  Now I can go to the weddings and have a pretty up-do without having to worry about myself and how I look.  I can focus on the important people of the day and making memories that will last a lifetime.  Who wants to be focused on themselves when other people are getting married?  Certainly not me.
My cousin Rob is a professional jazz musician and he is going to be playing the music for Julie's wedding.  Conn Curran is the singer and my cousin will play his saxophone.  (Just so you know it is The Rob Bennion Jazz Band.  They are amazing.)  I hope Trent will loosen up a little so that he can dance with me at the wedding and not feel embarrassed.  If he won't I'll just ask my brother to dance with me.  I'd much rather dance with my husband while he softly croons into my ear.  Ah, how romantic.  (That was just for you Megz.  You are right, we probably would kill each other.)
I think that if I were famous I would be on Dancing With the Stars.  Who wouldn't want Derek Hough to teach them a thing or two about grace and performance?  If my crazy aspirations came true, I would be first in that line.  I would, however, refuse to wear anything that was not clothing, see through, too short, or too tight.  Just because it is a costume doesn't mean you can be naked.  A spray tan might not be a bad idea, though.  My white neon skin flaring under the stage lighting might break the camera.  I definitely would not have a bad hair day on those days.

  1. the best part about permed hair definitely is how easy it is to do the hair daily. perms don't have to be 80s. Unless you are also rocking the three feet bangs;). I am sure it is great!

  2. I had my own beauty school perm when Ethan was a newborn. I needed to nurse and the students were taking waaay too long and then my hair was falling out anyway so it was not a great experience. You look great with perms, however. And I think my kids running around would have made me leave mid-treatment. You have more patience than me.
If you get a spray tan I want to be the first in line to see!

  3. I too would love to be on Dancing with the Stars.
Too bad there's not a Dancing with the "commoners." How fun to dress up and sparkle.
Now that is a wedding--jazz band with dancing! Very fun. Dance the night away!
