I finally have my laptop back and want to blog again. I realize not many see this blog and type different people have told me I am not allowed to write what I want on my own blog, so it is with great restraint that I begin this year's posts. I have been quiet about some issues that mean as great deal to me. The first is the same-sex marriage lawsuit. Many LDS people believe that it should be legal. I find that baffling. The issue has nothing to the with prejudice or dislike for anyone or their behavior. It has everything to do with what is best for society. When you shift the burden of proof to the prosecution you do a disservice to the process. When you say, "why not?" It is often too late for society to recover when there is enough proof to show why not. That's why we have a prophet. God knows why not and he tells the prophet what to tell us. I guess the is why it bothers me why LDS people think we are being closed-minded when we oppose the tide. This is a testimony indicator. We can pray and find out for ourselves why not. If we don't then it says to God we don't think He knows best and that we don't trust Him.
The next issue I've been silent on stems in my heart from the same place. An aquaintence from high school posted a critique on Facebook of the article in LDS Living about modesty at the Golden Globes. I haven't read the article, but her comments bothered me. She said they behaving modestly is more important than dressing modestly. My question to her is, "Aren't they intrinsically linked?" How can you have one without the other? Yes, a few inches matter. Cover up so that your dress and behavior glorify God.
The author was accused of objectifying the women they were trying to praise. Again I have not read the article, but I believe the author was just trying to say you can cover your private parts and still be beautiful. Why criticism for that? It all comes down to the same thing: having a testimony that God knows best and living our standards has impact, even in our posts on Facebook.
