Making a House a Home

I have a wonderful husband.  I found out that I could get an extra 15% off at JoAnn because Trent is a teacher.  So I dragged him down there on Monday night after FHE and made him sign up.  I then purchased material to make cushions for our bench and garden statues because they were already 40% off plus the teacher discount.  He became silent and I could tell he was irritated.  Then, halfway home I hear, "Thank you for trying to make our home more pleasant."  My heart melted.  Instead of being mad at me for something he thought was superfluous, he changed his attitude and decided to be grateful for my efforts to turn our ramshackled house into a home.
I've sewn the cushions and now I need to do some research to see what I can stuff them with since they go outside.  maybe I could sew some sort of plastic cover for the stuffing and then stuff all of that into the cover.  Any other ideas.  I've never sew for the outdoors before.  Also, does anyone know how to run electricity to an outdoor area so I can plug in a fan or lights by the bench?  I want this garden to be an oasis for us.
I also pulled weeds yesterday before I went to the gym.  "No way," you say.  "Yes way," I say.  Almost unheard of, and I would have pulled more if a deluge hadn't started driving inside to sew.  I was working all day and it felt great.  I love having a pleasant reason to get out of bed in the morning.  Before it was responsibility and kids that forced me out, now I want to get up and make my home a better place.  I'm not naïve enough to not know things won't change, but for now, I am happy in my industry.

  1. Great job and kudos to Trent for realizing what you were doing and being thankful. Good luck. I don't have any sewing tips -- I would have called you or my sister Tina or Tonya for those:)

  2. Good for you! I know they have outdoor fabrics but I wonder if there is something you can spray on the cushions to protect them? Hmmm.

  3. I think you should just be in charge of the ladies craft every year. Hope we get to sip lemonade with you in your outdoor oasis this summer.
