How Tacky!
I spent weeks planning and orchestrating the ward Christmas party. We arrive on the appointed day and discover people who think they have scheduled the building for basketball. A call is made to the building scheduler--yes I have the building all day. We work together and they play. Later that morning, the volleyball people arrive. They are more adamant that they have the building scheduled. I call again. This time she comes down against protestations that she doesn't need to. A cat fight ensues and I say it's okay--we can share. Yikes! Just so you know sports people who use the church every week for just a few of you, especially on Friday and Saturday, you are trumped by ward parties, weddings, scouts, stake activity days, primary parties--you get the idea. Please be considerate of others. When there is something set up in the multipurpose room--you do not get to play, period. You do not get to take it down and play, period. If you show up during a party or other event, go home. Please do not feel you have the right to play during their activity. Thanks for your consideration and cooperation.
So, after volleyball, we begin setting up the dinner and decorating. Hours later, the tables look beautiful, the walls and other decor looks beautiful, but, sadly, the doorways for each of the booths I made from dumpster-dived cardboard and PVC pipe looked incredibly tacky. Bummer. They kind-of ruined the whole effect we were trying to achieve. Hours of work this week and a numb finger all end up causing the opposite effect desired. I do not get to be in charge of elaborate decorating ideas anymore.

The dinner tasted great, the dessert booth was a great hit, and the crafts were fun. Santa was fantastic! After he lifted Bennett up onto his lap he knocked on his chest and exclaimed, "You're as solid as a brick!" If you've ever tried to pick him up, you know what Santa was talking about. The favorite request from Santa was a little neighbor boy--Neosporin. More power to ya. I asked for a comfortable pair of shoes; notice the lack thereof. Cutest pic with Santa--new baby. Mrs. Santa even got a little eskimo kiss. Thanks to Noelle for the beautiful pics. All in all nobody really minded that all my hard work was tacky.
Ahhhh. We know all about the fights w/ who gets dibs on the church. Usually it's Leon coming home early from b-ball because somebody thought they could set up their reception two nights in advance.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good party. You sound a little more on top of it than our activity people. (last minute fliers on our door assiging everyone a salad and dessert to bring...)
I thought it was cute personally! Maybe I am tacky ;)
ReplyDeleteThe night was fun and I LOVED the Christmas ornaments on the walls. You guys did great!
ReplyDeleteJust the arches were tacky--just to clarify.
ReplyDeleteHard to be in charge of things like that and I know exactly what you mean with the pillars... My mind always works up these great scenarios but my hands can never quite produce the desired effect. Oh well, it's almost Christmas!!!
