Challenge of Light

This year we, as a ward, are taking another challenge from our bishopric.  It is called the Challenge of Light.  If we achieve a goal listed on the paper included in the bulletin then we can turn in a paper light bulb.  At the end of the year we are going count the lights and put that many up at our Christmas party.  Of course it is symbolic and the goals are really meant to bring us closer to Christ, but the reward is fun to think about.
Last year we read the Book of Mormon and turned in a blue paper Book of Mormon cover copy the the bishopric put on the wall of the office.  Then the primary children went to the office and took a picture to send into the Friend.  We'll see if we make it into the magazine.  This year they wanted to do something that would be fun for the kids to turn in while we really focused on what is more important:  coming closer to Christ.
The goal we completed last night was to have a F.H.E. lesson about kindness and charity.  We challenged the kids to do something charitable this week to show others and Jesus how much we loved them.  I promised to read my scriptures everyday.  I've already messed up because I watched DWTS and Castle and forgot when I went to bed.

You see, I was busy looking up the song titles on the internet that the stars danced to last night.  Talk about stupid things that get in the way of righteous choices.  It was classical night and they had a world class violinist and a famous opera singer for the stars to dance to.  I was mesmerized.  The music was absolutely fantastic and completely out-shined  the stars.  Mio Bambino Caro, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Palladio (the song in the jewelry commercials), and one duet that I still haven't identified yet were my favorite.  The start that I didn't know was a star whose score topped the night danced to Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter.  I thought she didn't dance as well as the judges said, but who am I to judge.  I like to watch the Karate Kid dance more than somebody who stars on a show I've never seen.
The reason I was Googling these songs and not reading my scriptures was because I wanted to get them on itunes.  I have wanted to get them for a long time but had no idea how to identify them.  Now I do.  Hooray!  Who knew that DWTS would help me in my real life?  Now if listening to classical music was on the challenge list goals then I'd have it made.  Listening to classical music will help me get closer to Christ, so isn't that the goal in the first place?  Reading scriptures will help me more, obviously, so I renew my goal and will not let anything interfere with that today.

I could have told you that was Palladio--our quartet can totally rock out to that;)

  3. My Dad kept his scriptures on his lap while he watched t.v. I don't know that it's a very efficient way to learn anything though!
