Big T loves to stay busy during the Saturday sessions of conference so I thought I would join him. We chopped dead limbs off our tree that stands in front of our house. We picked up and stacked the sticks and branches that had fallen throughout the winter as well. We had the radio really loud so that we could "come listen to a prophet's voice." I don't know how much Big T heard and took in, but I got nothing out of it. So I stayed inside with the Baby to listen to the afternoon session while Big T raked and burned tumble weeds.
Needless to say that the work of the morning wore me out and my ribs hurt a lot. As I was nursing I fell asleep and missed 90% of the session. Oh well. Next time I will take notes. It is a really good thing we get the conference edition of the Ensign.
On Sunday we made the kids watch with us. Big mistake. They were so irreverent despite the reverence activities I had prepared that we couldn't hear at all and Big T was fuming. Poor guy. So we banished the kids to the basement to watch Veggie Tales while we tried to listen. The inevitable interruptions took place and we got snatches here and there.
What are your ticks to hearing the speakers during conference? We sure need them.
It's hard. We'll get a few speakers here and there, but kids will be kids! Sam was having a rough day yesterday and Dylan saw everyone's conference bingo treats and wanted them so badly. So both of them couldn't be with the rest of the family. oh well! maybe next year.
ReplyDeleteMy kids played outside ALL day on Saturday--no kidding. They were having adventures in my mom's big yard. That made for a quiet inside listening for us--hooray!
ReplyDeleteSunday indoors wasn't quite as peaceful.
Leta spent part of the time painting and the rest of the time playing alone in her room, she is still to young for me to be much help for you :) All I can offer is persistent is key, lead them by example not always the easiest route but will eventually reap rewards..
ReplyDeleteSaturday we have conference blaring everywhere and I'm always hopeful that the kids are picking up something. I usually sit and take notes by myself. Sunday we require everyone to come and it is church. Dan is constantly hungry and we've tried lots of things with varying levels success. Our neighbors said puzzles worked well for their kids -- they could do a big puzzle and listen. But for little ones it really just takes time. Hooray for the Ensign!
