I think the reason I love the music of this glorious time of year so much is because nothing brings the spirit of the season into my home like good music. Unlike a rousing chorus of Batman smells and Robin laid an egg, Oh, come let us adore Him or Hallelujah mean something more than just a punny joke. Santa has his place, like teaching kids giving is better than receiving, but I would prefer to have less to do with reindeer running over a favorite relative and more to do with an infant born in a barn.
How grateful my new little one was not born in such humble circumstances because there was room for me in the "inn". As horrible as that experience was, it could not possibly compare with a hay strewn floor. I hope Joseph swept before the big event.
It is the most wonderful time of the year and I hope my children recognize why this time around.

I love Christmas music too. I've even put my hip hop music on hold to listen to the likes of MOTAB, Harry Connick Jr., Mel Torme, Peter Brienholt, etc.
ReplyDeleteI know- it creates such a good feeling in the home. None of that jingle smells lyrics they learn at school!
ReplyDeleteI love Andy Williams and Barbra Streisand- some of my Christmas music given to me in childhood.
Christmas music is great! I'm sure that even if your kids only get what Christmas is really about a little bit now -- they'll learn a bit more every year until they love it for the same reasons you do -- especially if you keep that good music going.
ReplyDeletewe've got all of the above... Harry Connick, Mel Torme, Andy Williams, etc...
ReplyDeleteBabs drives me a little crazy - knowing she doesn't actually BELIEVE what she's singing about makes it just a little on the annoying side.
Well said.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have "The Grinch" in your collection :)
Isn't it great that all ages and all types of people can enjoy the same kind of music for at least part of the year.
