Way To Go DreamWorks!

We received a coupon for Redbox:  Rent 3 movies for $1.  How could we pass it up?  So we didn't.  "Despicable Me" was one of our choices.  We had not seen it before and we loved it, the potty humor included.  Yes, I am a big child.  What a wonderful message!  I also loved that Gru knew the names of his minions.  "I like him.  He's nice."  "But scary."  "Like Santa Claus."  "I said, 'Dart gun' not Fart gun."  "That book was accidentally maliciously destroyed."  Too funny.  Go ahead kids and reach for the moon, but do not be surprised or unhappy if what you actually get is something different.

"Shrek Forever After" was also one we rented.  I was concerned about this choice because these movies are generally too disgusting for my taste and the only thing funny about them is Donkey, but there was little choice.  This was also surprisingly good.  Not as crude or unfunny as the others.  I loved the message as well:  You don't know what you've  got until it's gone, so earn it back.  Fandango-ing into oblivion is something I'd like to try myself.

The kids received "How to Train Your Dragon" for Christmas.  I purchased it without seeing it because of the great word-of-mouth.  Again, I was amazed at how much I loved this movie.  One of my favorites of the year.  The care and love for others earned through service and kindness was something you do not see in movies or TV anymore.  The power of one helped me see ways I could improve my life.  We just might make it a FHE theme soon.

A couple of years ago, "Kung Fu Panda" came out.  Jack Black is incomparable and irreplaceable.  Being true to who you really are seems to be the theme of DreamWorks movies lately.  Way to go!  I am very impressed that the quality of production, talent, and message has truly been on par with Pixar for me.  As much as I loved "Toy Story 3," I cannot say it was a favorite.  It made me cry and not in a good way.  It hurt my heart that the toys loved each other enough to hold hands with the threat of incineration looming.  It hurt even more that they willingly gave themselves away because they knew that they could bring another joy even if it meant losing someone important to them.  Ouch, I can't even get rid of my kids toys when they are broken and they don't have feelings.  Wow, am I too attached to things.
Anyway, thank you DreamWorks and keep up the improvement.

p.s. I stole all of these images and they are the property of DreamWorks.

  2. They should pay you to advertise for them. I am all for movies that have good messages and are entertaining. Means less guilt when I put the kiddies in front of 'em and get something done around here. That's why I can't tell you how I personally feel about any of the above. But my kids liked them all.

  3. I am with you there! We also got How to train your dragon for Christmas and next on the list is Dispicable me for sure! There for awhile the kids movies where leaving me shaking my head at the crude humor and poor plot, but these give me hope :)

  4. I don't really enjoy watching animated movies! They're for the kids while I clean or take a break. But give me Ramona and Beezus or Matilda and I'm more likely to sit down with the kids, as long as I've not seen it 5+ times. Ramona and Beezus is in Redbox right now and it's great.

  5. What a great deal! I am with Erin. Not a super fan of animated movies. But I can handle them. Ramona and Beezus, Loved it! Matilda, Loved it! Also learned recently that the young girl Mara Wilson who played Matilda, mother died of cancer in the middle of filming it. How sad! I haven't seen a couple of the ones you mentioned. we will have to check them out. My kids like to sit in front of the TV. Well at least my boys do.

  6. I liked all of those too -- except I haven't seen "Despicable Me". I've heard it's very fun. I liked Toy Story 3 but it hurt my heart a bit too. I was always attached to my toys. I still mourn over my stuffed animal Ben that didn't make it for long after we are married. Clingy the monkey is around still even though Derek says she's mangy. I got her when I was 12.
