Dems Versus Reps

I am a little leery of writing a political comparison post today because I do not want to offend anyone.  Just to clarify, this is my opinion and you are more than welcome to disagree, but please do not bash me for it.
I read the Utah Democratic Party Platform over the weekend just to make sure I was not a democrat professing to be a republican.  I am a republican.  No doubt about it.
The Democratic platform wording implied that they were taking the moral high ground as opposed to the Republican way of destroying the earth and government.  I find that offensive.  The Republican Platform was not specific in the implementation of their beliefs, but stated what we stand The Democratic Platform was very specific and blamed all the problems this country faces on the Republicans and, by name, George W. Bush.  Again I find that offensive.  Even if you do not like the former president, he was still our leader and must be treated with respect even if you disagree with him and his views.
Mentioning people by name and blaming them for our current situation is not the way to run a political party.  You need to stand for something not look for what is wrong with the opposing party and try to rip them apart.  Get your own ideas if you disagree and base your beliefs on something else.  Just because I am a Republican does not mean I want the environment destroyed.  I am all for new ideas and healthy ecosystems.
I believe that government should but out most of the time and let us make our own choices.  I believe that government should protect and preserve us from that which we cannot protect ourselves, like murder and war.  Government should help create infrastructure and protect our constitutional rights.
Basically, I believe that a narrow view of the world by focusing on the now and hoping for a good result in the long run is not the way to go politically.  As president Hinckley said, "Stand for something."  Don't allow the currents to sway you off course.  Keep the final goal in mind:  Freedom not Socialism.

  1. Sounds reasonable to me! I agree- come up with your own, separate views, not bashing on the Republican party views in any way.

  2. Glad you could read that and could summarize. I'm relieved to know that I'm a republican too. I used to have democratic ideals of "everyone has a right to this and that" but then I took an awesome class on the Constitution and the founding of our country and it was life-changing for me-- at least politically speaking.
The democratic platflorm leads to Socialism which leads to Communism which is the opposite of freedom. Obviously, if people would look at the history of the world and even our current events--all communist regimes or heavy handed govts. have failed. FAILED!! And they always will.
So let's stick with Freedom, prosperity, and limited government.
I've been dying to get that out. Thanks for the post M.
