First Dates and Anniversaries

I stole this image off the touring company's website, Windwood Theatricals.
After I completely humiliated myself and finally got Big T's attention he asked me to go to a production of The Music Man at an amphitheater in Orem.  It rained during the performance but it stopped during intermission so we got to see the whole thing even though the rain began again.  I had never seen or heard of the show before and I loved it.  I recommend dates where you have to snuggle under a blanket, in public of course, to keep dry and warm.
A touring company came to Cedar and we got to go because season tickets are cheaper than going to two shows; we saw the King's Singers last week, whom we saw on our third anniversary trip.  It was great and hearing them sing is such a treat.  We couldn't pass up such a fantastic opportunity.  Thanks to the valiant babysitters and braving the baby so that we could go on a real date.  I can't remember when the last time was.  Thank you so much.
This is a picture of the actual cast.  The Harold Hill was different, but the rest are the same.
The dancing was fantastic.  Tommy Djelis, the boy in pink in front, stole the show dancing wise.  Zennita, the blonde girl on the desk, was incredible as well.  They were well matched.  Several understudies were performing, including Harold Hill.  Too bad.  I would have liked to see the main guy because the understudy made a few mistakes and his voice wasn't as powerful as the rest of the main characters.  Marian's voice was incredible and I liked it even better than Shirley Jones' voice (but don't tell her that, I love her).  My favorite song is "Marian the Librarian."  I think it has something to do with his stuffing a marshmallow into her mouth before inviting her to join the ladies dance committee.  He saw her need to be accepted in society and found a way to help her garner friendships.
The story is really touching to me and I love that she saw past his faults to help him discover the good things about himself.  They refined each other.  What a great concept.  Isn't that what it is all about?  Aren't we supposed to help each other uncover the best parts of ourselves?

  1. Fun! Glad you got to go out! My Mom watched that movie so much that I'm pretty sure our family could do our own tour of The Music Man. You can go ahead and play Marian.

  2. Wow! A date without the baby -- that is a good thing to get to do! That sounded fun. It is nice when we can help each other be our best selves.

  4. I think the deeper message of Music Man was lost on me when I saw it, 10 yrs ago. Thanks for filling me in. Also glad you could appreciate the fine performances. Maybe one day you will have a theatre named after you. The M Center. I like it.
    Happy Anniversary.
