Jimmer Mania

midwestsportsfans.com
What can I say, I've caught Jimmer Mania.  I hate watching sports where you have to depend on someone else for the win.  I hate close games and I hate to lose!  I hate having my feelings manipulated by an external source.  And yet . . .
Jimmer is such a pleasure to watch.  I know about his youth and the contract he signed with his brother to do all he can to get to the NBA.  He is fiercely competitive and Miss Congeniality all rolled into one--a rare blend.  So please, Jimmer, keep winning despite the number three rank.  BYU needs this.  I need this.  You need to restore my faith in people and lessen my hate of watching basketball.
My hatred of the sport stemmed from my teenage years when the Jazz were the second best team in the country, twice.  Darn the Michael Jordan.  Jokes like, "Don't buy a car from Stockton to Malone Honda because you'll never get the title," were prevalent.  All my hopes for sport success came crashing down and I have never been a fan of them since.  I am always harshly disappointed and mope for days if my team loses.  I am a fair weather fan at the most and a sore loser at my worst.  As soon as I have a glimmer of hope that m y team will win that glimmer is doused and I go back to my contempt and disdainful ways.  When Davies was caught violating the honor code my feelings were hurt.  Silly, yes.  Understandable, also yes.  How could he have been so selfish?  Didn't he realize what an opportunity he was squandering?  If we lose the title then it could be blamed on him.  I won't because Jimmer's teammates are finally stepping up and he is no longer providing 47% of the score.  Please keep winning.
Wouldn't a national title be just what we need for the LDS Church?  Yes, this is ridiculous.   But come on, can't we have one great year?  Please?

  1. Whenever any basketball game is on Noelle will start yelling, "I love you Jimmer!" We've trained her well.
I'm OK without a national title. Too much pressure. I'd be OK just accepting our position in the Sweet 16 and just enjoying that for awhile.

  2. Not me. I'm greedy and want the best for Jimmer. He has to be given the Naismith Trophy and be first round draft pick 'cause he's just that good. Can life be fair just this once.

  3. Go Jimmer! Go Emery! Go Roberts! Go Abouo! Go guy with the poky hair junior (Collinsworth)! Go Anderson! Go Hartsock! Go everyone else! Let's hope for the best. But I'm pretty sure that even if we lose Jimmer will land on his feet and will grin again after a day or two. I know what you mean though about wanting them to win so much that it's hard to watch them play!

  4. I'm so impressed that Sher knows so many of their names... I was happy to be shown the text Saturday night about winning because I'm still a fan... just not a fan that actually wants to sit through an entire game.

and no, I don't even know what the Naismith trophy is... so sue me :)
