Paper Mache and Scouts--Not a Good Combo

Riddle me this:  When do you come home encrusted with flour and water paste and a black paint circle around the blossom of your top?  When you make table decorations at Scouts.  We are supposed to use recycled materials.  I should have known that 8-year-olds are not coordinated to keep paper mache and paint in the designated areas.  Who knew that 32-year-olds aren't either.  I must confess that balloons roll and they are quick when they do so.  At least it wasn't at my house.  I'm sure she is still cleaning.

On a happier note, B had his baptismal interview with the Bishop last night.  We rushed to the church, I dropped him off, dropped stuff off at scouts, drove back and waited for his to finish.  He comes out chomping on a piece of gum that he had chosen out of the candy jar.  Everybody gets a piece after they visit the office.  I asked B what he was asked and he kept giving vague answers.  He finally said "I don't remember cause I was thinking about gum."  Well, at least he knows what's important.  He does remember the story the Bishop told about listening to the Spirit and a car wreck.  Go figure.  He wants to be baptized so he can be like Jesus.  That's good enough for me.

  1. As the maker of several pinatas I know that I would never let children participate in that craft. Unless you have several days and a workspace that you don't mind abusing. We still have 'cement' stuck to our ceiling from when my balloon prematurely popped in the middle of layering...
Good job to B. Gum is a great motivator.

  2. gum trumps all!

papier mache should be banned for the under 15 crowd... the number of times I have had to make pinatas with kids you'd think I would learn to scream no and run across the border in the opposite direction!

  3. We're excited to come to B's baptism. We'll be sure to bring him some gum. That hopefully won't be as messy as paper mache

  4. I've never had the desire to do paper mache. It sounds really brave to do it with scouts! I'm glad B. wants to be like Jesus!
