I then discovered Qubo Night Owl where they show cartoons from my childhood. Among them, you guessed it, is He-Man. I laugh so hard at what I used to think was awesome. He-Man's signature move of grabbing the monster by the tail, swinging it around , and throwing it off into the distance is way funny now when it was amazing at the tender age of 7. My sisters and I used to receive He-Man and Skeletor action figures for Christmas and birthdays. Our favorites were the ones with spinning chests that had increasing levels of damage to look as if they were injured in the ensuing battle. Sometimes these action figures even ended up being Barbie's groom a time or two.
Anyone else have a favorite cartoon that they have revisited for their children? I know my sister found some Johnny Quest a few years ago after her boys were caught watching "Brigadoon" by their Dad. (Well, maybe not that exact situation, but something similar.) Scooby Doo is still a classic and the only thing that bugs me about it now is that the monsters are not real so I can't soothe my children with, "Monsters are not real just like in Scooby Doo. They are just people pretending to be scary." Now what so I use as a reference so calm their troubled hearts?

We just found He-Man and She-ra on Qubo too. Russell and I even watched a He-Man together but it was laughable. He-Man doesn't have the best lines and he is so buff I don't know how he can move. I guess that was all we had, so it was really awesome. Does Big T love reminiscing as he watches it? Chipmunks and Smurfs were some of my faves, though we just got a Smurfs dvd as a gift and my kids didn't enjoy it at all. Cartoons have come a long way!
ReplyDeleteI just equate He-Man with Big T. And how he'd run home from school really fast to watch it. Or to go to the bathroom, one of the two.
ReplyDeleteI think they were doing a Smurfs remake sometime, weren't they? I don't have too many things from my past that my kids think are awesome (Saturdays Warrior, quiet pondering moments, being a peacemaker... )I'm pretty sure they wouldn't go for He-Man. Not enough potty humor and lame graphics. Ike always makes fun of the poor cartooning in the animated scripture movies.
Um, orange chicken sounds good -- any recipe right now because I'm hungry. Okay, not a yucky recipe (I'm obviously behind on blogs). The only cartoon I used to like was Speed Racer and I'm pretty sure that it would make me laugh or cringe -- I'm not sure which -- to watch it now!
ReplyDeleteoh, it's official - discussing childhood cartoons TOTALLY dates me!!! (I babysat kids who watched He-Man and She-Ra when I was a high-schooler)
ReplyDeleteI have managed to pick up some old UnderDog and Rocky and Bullwinkle for the kids... we even have some REALLY old Beanie and Cecil... but THAT was even before MY time... (really, I promise!)
and now I'm going to be humming "go speed racer goooooo" as I clean my house - thanks Sher :)
