Last night both T and I were relaxing and Sweet Boy felt he should be included in the party. We kept asking him questions like, "Do you want Daddy to get you a snack?" "Yes," came the sweet reply. "Would you like Daddy to get you some peaches?" "Yes," little one said. Then Daddy asked, "Do you want Mommy to get you peaches?" A wailing, "No," was the answer. "Would you be offended if Mommy got you peaches?" "Yes," he said with a smile and a cock of the head. Big T kept trying to get out of it, but Sweet Boy would have none of it. He wanted Daddy to get him his peaches and nobody else, but he did it in such a charming and adorable way that we had a precious memory with him. He definitely came to Earth with a special (not "special") personality and purpose. Nobody is given a naturally charming personality unless they are expected to be a positive influence for good.
This experience got me thinking about people's talents in general. I think I came to Earth with a few talents, naturally charming is not one of them. Determination to be better and a sense of right and wrong are among them, though. I did not get inhibitions, however, and that has resulted in a steady stream of foot to mouth experiences.
Here's the chance to toot your horn while you march to the beat of your own drum. What did you come, or not come, to Earth with? What are you great at and what do you enjoy? Sometimes we see each other everyday and don't know some of these things about one another. Let's find out today.
Let's see ah. Drawing, photography, and a Love for kids. Though patience was definitely not among the gifts. One of the gifts I would love to have it the gift of Understanding for the scriptures. I know that sounds weird but I have a hard time remembering what I read and fulling understanding it. Even on my mission this was a struggle that I can't seem to shake. Their are the straight forward things you know that are written but the deep down understanding and applying them in your lives is a struggle. OK know that I have rambled on. Hope you have a great day.
ReplyDeleteCute story--I'll get him peaches anyday.
ReplyDeleteI think I came here w/ lots of gifts but they are still waiting to come forth. Like that charming personality you were talking about.
And I think your lack of inhibitions may be seen as a gift for the rest of us to be entertained by!
Well I don't have much that I can consider worthy enough to toot my horn about but I do love managing my home... tending to the chores and decorating and organizing. Yes I am sick I know.
