Normally I am not disparaging about my husband on my blog, so I hope you take this as funny, not rude. I told Big T that Bountiful Baskets has moved up a week to avoid the holidays. I told him how excited I was about the hostess pack. He got really confused and asked, "What does Bountiful Baskets have to do with snack cakes?" I couldn't stop laughing. The hostess pack has lots of things you need to host a holiday dinner: potatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, mushrooms, etc.
The reason I was so excited about the holiday hostess pack is because I am hosting my first Thanksgiving dinner. We cannot leave the area because Big T works the day before and the day after the holiday so we invited my parents to come celebrate with us. I'm a little nervous. I can't bake. I've only cooked one turkey before, and my mashed potatoes tend toward the instant kind. I volunteered to host because I want to learn how.
In an effort to be the best hostess I can be, what do I need to make for the best feast ever? What item says Thanksgiving dinner to you? What will my family be disappointed about if I do not include it in our celebration?

Unfortunately, most people think turkey is a must. I personally would be fine with just rolls and pie, but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteSkip the cranberries, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, homemade stuffing and any other item that might have nutritional value. Maybe add some Ding Dongs for T-Dogg. There's your perfect feast. Good luck.
It will go fine I have done one on my own and last year we combined familys and did a potluck sytle, which is what where doing again this year.
ReplyDeleteIf you ask Jayme besides the traditional things his family has there Jello salad that has to be at every major dinner or its not complete. For me I stick with the traditional Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pies, veggie tray, candied yams, corn you get the idea...Good luck!
Definitely have cranberry sauce! It's surprisingly easy to make, and makes all the other items taste so much better! Stuffing! Stove Top is great. Do the yams...just buy the canned kind to cut back on prep. I loved making my own turkey because there is a recipe on allrecipes that is Maple Glazed Turkey and the gravy has a sweet taste, due to some apples...so much tastier than the normal kind! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteit's going to be wonderful - because Thanksgiving is all about family. and pie... lots of pie - have T grab a few at CostCo and you'll be set. Turkey/Cranberry Sauce/Potatoes/Yams... I think that covers it... I think every family has their own "must haves" (like the Dixie Salad that Quinn can't live without and the layered jello that I love) but this is YOUR family - and I think you should set the tradition of Simpler is Better :)
