Let Freedom Ring

At pack night we retired a flag.  It was a beautiful ceremony and the whole evening got me thinking.  Our neighbor who is an army recruiter came and gave us a presentation about what the flag means and stands for.  It was incredible.  He even offered to help our boys learn how to do the flag ceremony correctly.  Apparently we messed it up.  Anyway, He pointed to the flag on his uniform and asked us to look for the difference between his and the ones on our uniforms.  The blue field is on the back of our arms, whereas his blue field is on the forward part of his arm.  He compared it to actually holding the flag while advancing,  it furls and billows out behind you.  A soldier always advances, never retreats from those that oppose what we stand for; freedom to worship, freedom of speech, freedom to govern our own happiness.  What a fantastic idea!
Am I always advancing, pushing forward through obstacles?  Am I bravely facing challenges, or do I hastily retreat in fear.
What have you bravely faced lately?  Where are you advancing when it would be so easy to run away and hide?

  1. Those are could questions. I'm not sure if I really want to answer that question. I might not like what I write and then see what I do.
